Everything you need to know
about SMP

Q: What’s the cost?

The price will ultimately depend on how extensive your treatment is. Each client is treated as an individual at Defined Edge, therefore all this will be discussed during your free one to one consultation with us.

Q: How long should I expect my treatment sessions to take?

An average human head has a mind blowing 2000 hair follicles per square inch. On a head that is mainly bald it would usually take 3 hours per session and a minimum 3 sessions to achieve. Each session will normally be spaced out by at least 10 days. This allows the pigments that we have applied to settle down and for the redness on the scalp to ease, this normally happens 36 – 48 hours after each treatment.

Q: Will scalp micropigmentation work with grey hair?

Scalp micropigmentation will work with any hair colour.

Q: How long will my scalp micropigmentation last?

Scalp micropigmentation is a form of permanent cosmetics, the treatment typically lasts 4-6 years, after that time a client may experience some slight fading, should this happen we advise on booking an appointment for a quick touch up session.

Q: Does SMP look real?

This all depends on your practitioner, a fully qualified practitioner will create a natural hairline if it’s a shaved head or can add balanced density work on thinning areas. We aim to deliver the most real and naturally defined hairline that Scalp Micropigmentation can produce. SMP will give the appearance of a full head of hair that has been shaven, giving you that buzz cut. You will be amazed by the results.

Q: Is SMP painful?

Everyone’s pain threshold is different, some clients will report a mild discomfort on different areas of the scalp, while other clients have almost fell asleep during treatment!

Q: What if I have long hair?

Scalp micropigmentation can help aid long hair, although a consultation would be needed to decide if there is enough hair for the procedure to look realistic.

Q: How will I choose my hairline?

When considering your hairline, it’s important to understand that this treatment will not wash away. Your hairline that suits you today, may change as you get older. We will go through a variety of different styles and advise on what we feel is best, but ultimately it will be your choice.
